This shrine is located on the eastern side of the city of Baghdad (Al-Rusafa) near the Wastani Gate, one of the four gates of the eastern wall of Baghdad, which was known in the past as (Bab Al-Dhafriya), and in the locality that was attributed to him, the ascetic Sheikh and Sufi scholar Shihab al-Din Abu Hafs Omar al-Suhrawardi, who His lineage goes back to Caliph Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq (may God be pleased with him). He was a Shafi’i jurist who took knowledge and wisdom from Sheikh Abd al-Qadir al-Kilani and other sheikhs, and held a preaching council for years, and he was the sheikh of the sheikhs in Baghdad.
The building of the shrine consists of the mausoleum room topped with a conical dome, which is similar to the style of the dome of the shrine of Mrs. Zumrud Khatoun on the Karkh side. It was built in the same year in which Sheikh Suhrawardi died, and a mosque was attached to the shrine, whose construction dates back to the year (917 AH – 1511 AD).
