Maysan Marshes

Hawizeh marsh

It is located between the governorates of Maysan and Basra. The Basra Governorate has established a natural reserve in it called “Al-Safia Reserve”. It is bordered to the east by Iran. The length of the marsh is 80 km, its width is 30 km, and the maximum area of the marsh is approximately 3000 km.

Al-Suda Marsh

It is located in the Al-Mushrah district and has two wild entrances, which are the Al-Mushrah district road, Al-Souda neighbourhood, and the last of Al-Kahla “The Breadwinner – Al-Mushrah”. The name Al-Souda came from the color of the waters of the Black Marsh.

Almaleh Marsh

It is located in the Al-Mashrah district. It was called Bahr Al-Maleh due to the salinity of its water This marsh is 4 km away from the city of Amarah, and its length is about 27 km, and its width is 10 km. Several rivers flow into this marsh, including Al-Duwairij, Al-Tayyib, and Saad River.

Um Naaj Marsh

It is located in the Al-Kahla district and has two wild entrances through the Al-Kahla district in the Bani Hashem district, and another entrance is Al-Kahla and Al-Moa’il in the village of Abu Khasaf. The width of the marshes is about 25 km, and its length reaches up to the Iranian border, about 30 km.
