Khan Murjan

It is one of the facilities designated by the school to generate sufficient funds to cover its expenses along with orchards and other real estate, and it is located in front of the Al-Murjaniya School.

The khan is considered one of the important architectural monuments to visit, as the building was built on a rectangular plan with a roofed hall in the middle of which the rooms overlook on two floors. It was known in the later eras as Khan al-Ortama, meaning the hidden or covered khan, because the khan was distinguished from most of the khans of Baghdad, as its courtyard, i.e. its inner courtyard, was covered with huge vaults of bricks, and was held between them with vaulted ceilings, and this allowed the merchants who used to go to it or stay in it, to keep their goods therein.

The khan is a rectangular roofed hall with a length of 30.25 m, a width of 11.4 m, and a height of 14 m from its floor. In the middle of the plan is a wide hall surrounded by 22 rooms whose doors open to it, and on the upper floor are 23 rooms, one of which is above the entrance.
