Caliph Al-Mu’tasim Palace

The largest palace in the world. The area of the public house is one of the architectural miracles, as it reaches with all its annexes to about one million square meters. It was built in the era of Al-Mu’tasim in the year 221 AH. The Caliph was sitting in this palace to look into the affairs of the parish and it was the Caliph’s official residence. There are suites dedicated to the residence of the Caliph and his entourage, his guards, the treasury house, equestrian games and large courtyards, and the most important remaining features are: the entrance known as Bab al-Amma located on the Tigris River. The most important thing in it is the three existing iwans, the largest of which is the middle one, which appears in a rectangular shape, 17/5 m in length, 8 m in width and its current height is 12 meters. Bricks and plaster were used in the construction of this palace, and the bottom of walls was decorated beautiful stucco decorations.
