Al-Sahla Mosque

Al-Sahla Mosque –Al-Sahla Mosque is one of the most famous and greatest mosques built in Kufa during the first Hijri century. In the words of the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them, it is related to the history of the prophets, peace be upon them, and their standing, as well as their place of worship and residence. It comes to the Imamiyyah in rank and status after the four mosques. Because of his grace stipulated in the narrations, and that it is one of the places where Imam Mahdi, peace be upon him, resides, and that it is his dwelling and the dwelling of his household after the reappearance.

The historical legacy of the Magnificent Al-Sahla Mosque lacks reliable information about the specific joints of its foundation and the stages of its construction development, as is the case with many mosques and Islamic monuments.

Perhaps the mosque’s bearing of various names is evidence of the antiquity of its construction, based on the fact that the mosque, in every period of time or stage of renovation, had carried the name of the people who renovated or adjoined it.

Builders Some believe that the mosque was built before the caliphate of the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (PBUH) in Kufa (35-40) AH. Perhaps one of the stages of the renovation of the building was associated with the Banu Dhafar, and they were a clan of the Ansar who settled in Kufa, and a clan from the “Abdul Qais” tribe.

location : The location of the mosque: The mosque is located about two kilometers from the northwest side of the Kufa Mosque, and it is on the edge of the old Sahla cemetery. It seems that the structure of the building and the styles of architecture in the mosque, which people successively rebuilt, refer to the style of the buildings in the first century AH.

Building shape: Building shape: The approximate shape of the area of the mosque is rectangular in shape, consisting of four sides: the northern length is 160 meters, the eastern length is 130 meters, the southern length is 160 meters, and the western length is 130 meters. The wall of the mosque is high and supported by semi-circular towers from the outside, the height of the wall is more than 22 meters. In the middle of the eastern side is a 13-meter-high minaret, surrounded by a basket decorated with the most beautiful types of decoration and inscriptions on which Quranic verses were written.
