Shrine of Imam Mahdi (pbuh)

Among the prominent and famous sacred shrines in the city of Al-Hussein, peace be upon him, we find the shrine of Imam Al-Mahdi, may God Almighty hasten his honorable reappearance. The shrine and its surroundings are crowded with millions of loving and loyal visitors who light candles rejoicing in his honorable birth, praying to God to hasten his honorable reappearance and his splendid appearance.

This place has been named after the name of the Awaited Imam Mahdi, as it is said that Imam Al-Hujjat Al-Mahdi, peace be upon him, prayed in this place and left.

It is located in the Bab al-Sallameh area, which is one of the stores of the holy governorate of Karbala. It overlooks from the front side the Sidra Street opposite the sanctuary of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, in the north. It is 650 meters away from the holy Husseiniya shrine. It is located on the left bank of the current Husseiniya river at the entrance of Karbala on the road leading to the shrine of Jafar Alsadeq It is a famous shrine with a high dome.

The current building of the shrine was built on an area of approximately (1300) square meters. Its front façade consists of a wall with a height of (5.6) square meters, covered with fine stone, permeated by Islamic arches covered with decorated Kashi Karbala’i. Above the wall is a battalion of Karbala’i Kashi written on it a verse from the Holy Quran. The shrine has three entrances.
