St.,Elijah’s Monastery

A monastery located on the right side of the Tigris River, south of Mosul, inside Al-Ghazlani Camp (previously), and it is currently devoid of monks (and this monastery is not the Church of Saint Elia Al-Hiri located in Baghdad). It was founded by the monk Elijah Al-Hiri at the end of the sixth century AD

It contains a large number of decorations and inscriptions, and in 1743 AD a Persian commander destroyed it, causing devastation and destruction to it, and it remained neglected until now. Currently, it is a group of ruins and deserted, and people celebrate its feast during the week of the fall season. The ruins of the monastery were destroyed by ISIS in September 2014.
